Spring Break...

I hate getting up early--pushing my eyes open and dragging my body out of my warm bed into the cold home long before it's ready for the night to be over. But oh man, do I love being up early. I love that the house is all quiet; I love that the sky is still semi-dark; I love how much I can get done because when you get up early the day is that much longer.

This morning I did just that and am now enjoying sitting in a quiet kitchen while Landon rides his bike to the store to get some maple syrup for breakfast, knowing that the pancake mix is made for when our friends, who were staying the night with us, wake up, the dishwasher is unloaded, the dishes are clean and the dogs are still asleep. I love having a few stolen moments to blog without feeling like there's so much else I should be doing.

Yesterday morning, I did just that also. I mean, I got up early. I got up when Landon left for work and then, instead of going back to bed when he left, like I really wanted to, I got some cereal, did my Bible reading for the day and then went outside to work in the flowerbeds. It was a gorgeous morning, still cool because the sun hadn't fully risen yet. It was quiet and peaceful and I managed to get the front beds all weeded before my little brother showed up at 10am on the dot to hang out.

We took our bikes down to the bike park by my house and had an awesome time---the weather was PERFECT, the park wasn't crowded and the ten miles we rode absolutely flew by as we rode and talked and enjoyed being outside.

Then, after lunch at Subway and a quick trip to the nursery, he spent the next few hours helping me plant the flowers I bought and spread mulch over the beds. Again, it was such a good time--and I am SO thankful for his help. I really don't think I could have gotten it all done without his help, and it for sure would have been a lot less fun!

When Landon left yesterday morning, he kissed me and said "enjoy your last day of spring break". Initially, when he said that I groaned and asked him why he had to point out to me that it was my last day. And he smiled at me and said, "because I want you to enjoy it. Have a good day." So sweet. And it really did make me have a good day. Pretty much, Friday was by far the best day of my spring break. All the things on my to do list were done (except the planting, which was fun), my little brother hung out with me pretty much all day, which was awesome--we wished you could have been there too, Matt!, and then that night some of our best friends stayed over at our house, which is always a good time.

Thanks for the sweet reminder, Landon, and thanks for hanging out with me, Michael!
