Happy Halloween!

I am always so thankful for days like today. Even though things didn't exactly go as planned, we had a nice, relaxing day together--and we got most of the things done that we wanted to, and even did a few things we didn't plan on... like carving a pumpkin!

At about 5pm today, we decided it'd be fun to carve a pumpkin this year, which is something we'd never done together. So, after a quick trip to the store, we had this beauty sitting on our kitchen counter.

And, with about an hour and a half before we thought we'd get some kids at the door, we dove right in...so fun! :)

Landon cut the top off, all fancy-schmancy...

and then it was my job to scrape off the goo out of the inside

and separate out the pumpkin seeds to roast.

While I was working on the seeds, Landon started tracing our design onto the pumpkin

and we both took turns cutting it out.

The finished product--we thought it was pretty fun! :)

Our pumpkin sat out on our porch to welcome the kiddos to our house, and it must have worked because we definitely had more kids this year than last year (which isn't saying much, haha!). They were so cute in their little costumes.

And we enjoyed a relaxing night at home, listening for knocks on the door, eating homemade Chinese food, playing with the dogs, watching football (Landon) and scrapbooking our trip to Chicago (me).

And, the icing on the cake is that it's not really 1:14am as I type this...it's only 12:14am. This might be my favorite night of the year. :)

Snippets of life

I love nights like this. It's pouring down rain outside, just like they predicted it would, which is why we decided to stay in tonight. We cooked dinner and ate it together and now we're all (Will and Baby included) relaxing in the bedroom, listening to the rain fall outside. I'm blogging and Landon's lying beside me watching the Phillies and the Yankees battle it out in the World Series. The dogs are snoring. I'm pretending the dishes and the laundry are already done and that I'm not going to have to get up soon to do them. And for that record, I'm also pretending that it's cool outside, instead of warm and muggy, because the weather people promised me cooler weather when I wake up in the morning. I love nights like this.

The Post Marathon Blues--
When I first heard this term I thought it was kind of silly, because I just knew that I would be ecstatic after the marathon and life would be awesome. But it was weird because as soon as we got home from Chicago, it was like we were in this slump. I didn't want to do all of the things that I'd been putting off to do until after the marathon, I didn't feel like planning and cooking meals, I didn't feel like doing all I needed to do to get caught up at work. And I really didn't feel like working out, because the marathon was over! And we had a laugh one night when I told Landon that I had the post-marathon blues. While we were training for the marathon, and especially during that last month or so, SO much of our attention was focused on it: it affected what I bought at the grocery store, what meals I cooked, when we went to sleep, how much we ate out, how much we rested etc. It was always on my mind--and then the climax came when we ran it and then, all of a sudden, all that we'd been focused on and looking forward to for so long, was over. And while I was thrilled, I was a little sad that it was over. Like I didn't have anything to work towards, to look forward to, to challenge myself with. Too weird. So many things about the marathon experience were not what I expected.

I finally feel like I am back on top of things at work. I know where my kids are and how many books they've all read and who's getting what I'm teaching and who's not and who's just not doing any work. I am fully caught up on paperwork and grading and planning...at least until next week. But for now, I'm reveling in the fact that things are good. Even though I could be totally cursing by saying that! :)

We're slowly easing back into working out. We took the entire first week off. Then, this week, we've run once, went to a spin class once, swam last night and then we're going to run on Saturday. Because, we've still got the San Antonio half marathon that we're doing with Landon's dad in 2 weeks and then the Goofy Challenge at Disney World in January. And we're thinking about doing a triathalon sometime next spring, for fun--and because it's on both of our "to do before we die" lists! So, starting next week, we're back in full work out/ training mode--we'll be running three times a week and swimming and biking for out cross-training. I'm kinda dreading it, because it makes life busy again, but looking forward to it at the same time. Over the last year, working out together has become something we really enjoy doing.

Landon got his first paycheck in the mail for his law firm this week! Woohoo! His law firm is official and he's bringing home the bacon. We framed his first paycheck stub--it's the closest we could get to the first dollar his business brought in. :) I'm so proud of him--he is working so hard and doing such an awesome job. I couldn't ask for a husband more perfect for me than him.

Landon and I both swam a mile last night! The most we'd done before last night was a 1/2 mile but we both just kept swimming last night and ended up doing a mile. I took a couple of little breaks but did it all. It was fun--a nice change of pace from running for sure. And, on Monday we bought Bally's memberships from someone, so we now have gym memberships for life! My dream come true, haha! I'm really excited about it.

Happy Friday! I'm excited because Fridays at my school are now College Friday, where teachers and students are supposed to wear their college t-shirts. I forgot about it last Friday, but tomorrow I'm wearing my new ACU shirt that I got at homecoming. When I would wear my old one, which just said ACU Wildcats, all my kids would ask me if it was the Wildcats from High School Musical. They make me laugh. Anyway, so my new one just says ACU.

Go ACU! I keep telling all my students that they should go there. :)

A much needed weekend at HOME

After a busy couple of weekends, it was so nice to just spend a weekend at home, caching up on stuff around the house...and TRUST ME, there was more than enough that needed getting caught up on! :)

We both slept in some, which I had been looking forward to since the day after the marathon.

Then, I spent literally all day cleaning the inside of our house and doing laundry etc and Landon spent literally all day outside working in the yard. I'm still not sure who got the short end of that stick...

For the first half of the day, while Landon was working out in the front yard, the dogs spent the morning following me around and the sitting and staring at me while I cleaned.

Then, Landon moved to the back yard and spent the rest of the day working back there, while Baby spent the rest of her day standing at our back door watching him. She was cracking me up--she wouldn't move from that window!

Around dinnertime, we decided that that night was the perfect night to reward ourselves with our Date in a Box--our birthday present from my brothers that we got back in August.

We spent our dinner movie on Star Pizza (our instructions were to try a new restaurant in our neighborhood that we'd never been to) which was delicious.

And, we chose to spend our movie money on Transformers, which we watched as we chowed down on our pizza.

It was a wonderful ending to the day--and we finally feel some semblance of order and being on top of things in our life again, which is equally wonderful!

Thanks, Matthew and Michael, for a fun night out!! You're the best! :)

In case you were wondering...

...how far 26.2 miles really is...here's the video that they were playing at the Expo before the marathon of the race course.

Watching it the day before the marathon was even more nerve-racking than actually getting out there and running it! :)

ACU Sports Hall of Fame

This past weekend my father in law was inducted into the ACU Sports Hall of Fame for his 17 years as the Head Athletic Trainer at ACU. So, we drove up for the weekend and enjoyed an awesome weekend of celebrating him--and enjoying being back in Abilene, which is always such a treat for us! :)

Friday night was the actual induction ceremony at the new Welcome Center at ACU, where he gave a speech and received his plaque. He had four tables full of people there to see him--family, friends, people he used to work with. Pretty cool.

Then, we spent all day Saturday enjoying ACU homecoming festivities--the parade, which he and Abagael were in, the game, which they ended up losing :( , and then dinner with the whole family that night--all of his sisters came in town for the weekend too.

Then, on Sunday morning, we got to see Pam and the kids, go to church at the Mission, which, no matter how long I've been gone, will always feel like home to me, and then eat lunch with Tim and Lindsey at Little Panda. It was the perfect ending to an awesome weekend!

Congrats again, Wes! You deserve it and we are so glad we could be there to celebrate with you!
