Operation Smile and Mercy Project

If you're like me and still doing some last minute shopping and wrapping on Christmas eve, these are two organizations doing awesome things in our world today to help those who need an advocate to fight for their most basic needs.

Operation Smile is an organization near and dear to my Mom's heart and one she faithfully supports.  And every year at Christmas, Landon and I make a donation in her name as one of her presents.

They work to change the lives of children born with a cleft palate, cleft lip and other facial deformities--through relatively simple surgeries they give these children the gift of a normal, healthy childhood--and are working to educate people in countries all over the world about ways to prevent these deformities and treat them on their own.  I love it. It's such a simple thing and all it takes is a little money--something most of us can spare--to transform someone's life.  I may not be able to do the surgery, but I can spare a few dollars to fund a doctor who can.

If you haven't heard of them, check out what they're all about.  The children's smiles will melt your heart.  http://www.operationsmile.org/our_work/

And secondly, I know I've talked endlessly about Mercy Project on here, but as the holidays approach, a season of abundance for many Americans, I can't get the kids of Lake Volta out of my head, the kids who don't even have their freedom and don't have much to celebrate.

If you have a moment, take a minute to watch this short video Mercy Project put together.  It's worth a few minutes of your time, I promise!  They're doing a challenge this year to give one less gift and instead make a donation, trying to raise $1000, the cost to rescue one child from slavery.  If you're interested, you can check them out on Facebook!

Merry Christmas!
