K-I-V-A

A few weeks ago on a couple of blogs I saw people post about KIVA, a newish website. So tonight I spent some time browsing on it and it is such a cool idea. It's basically a website set up to connect people through lending with the end goal of alleviating poverty--how cool is that??

You can browse though all different people's stories and businesses on the website and then give them a $25.00 loan to help them get their business up and going and help them take steps towards economic independence and a good life for themselves and their family.

Once you make the loan you get updates on their business and progress and then when the loan is repaid, you can loan to someone else. For most of us $25 is a fairly small amount, but for just a few $25.00 loans, someone's life can be changed as they can become financially stable and able to support their families. I love it. I wish I had thought of it. :)

I haven't decided who I'm going to loan to first, but I'm definitely going to. Check out the website--such an easy way to really empower someone and not just give them a handout.
