this and that...

I've never been to Detroit.

A few months ago, I got asked at work if I wanted to go to a training in Boston--I said yes, because I've always wanted to go to Boston!

Then, the training got moved to Detroit. Oh well--at least so far the weather has been gorgeous. And, I've never been to Detroit either, so I may be pleasantly surprised.

I've got a few minutes before the training actually starts, so I've just got a few odds and ends to share.

While I'm on the topic of work, I found this in one of my lower ESL student's writer's notebook a couple of days ago and thought it was just about the most precious thing I've ever seen. A couple of weeks ago we had a bad day in her class--three or four of the boys were just terrible and I lost it with them--the first time that year that has happened. And, shortly after, they went to their notebooks for writing time and this is what she wrote. For how bad some of the boys in this class are, the girls are just too sweet.

This is a horrible picture, but we tried--it was just too dark inside the restaurant and outside for my little phone, and none of us had a camera--but we did have a fun girls night last weekend! We left the boys at home and saw J Lo's new movie and ate some great Thai food--I actually ordered curry for the first time--thanks to my brother's recommendation--and LOVED it, surprisingly! Apparently Thai curry is WAY different than Indian curry, which is the only kind I've had before and was not a fan of. Thanks girls, for a fun night! We need to make this a regular thing!!

I don't have any pictures to prove it, but we've also had a lot of sibling time in the past week--my brother Matthew came out our way to hang out and eat some yummy Mexican food last Wednesday and then we hung out with Landon's brother and his wife on Friday night, because we had to drop them off for their cruise in Galveston--SO jealous! It makes me so excited and anxious for ours coming up in July!

And, speaking of siblings--my youngest brother, Michael, just finished his first year of college at OC! GONGRATS Michael! You did awesome and we can't wait to see you this week!!! Glad you're home!

It's times of the year like this when I'm so glad we ended up back in Houston.

And now, it's officially time for me to head to the SIOP conference--still not exactly sure what that stands for, but hopefully I'll learn something useful about teaching ELL students.

I'll be back later with some exciting news on the job front about Landon's job, as soon as I get the green light from him.

Then, I'll be back probably even later with some (kind of) exciting news on the job front for me,as soon as it's more official.

And then, early next week, I've got something exciting planned--it involves all of us, helping free child slaves in Ghana and one of you winning something really cool. I'm pumped!!

Happy Thursday!

  1. Have fun in Detroit. I've never been there either, so I can't wait to hear the scoop.
