We ran seven miles today!! Woo-hoo! It's weird to think that just six weeks ago we thought a mile was a long way to go and now we can run seven. We walked for about 20 seconds at one point because I had a really bad side cramp in the beginning, but other than that ran it all.
I got called out by my wonderful husband yesterday when he said that I don't like to push myself when we run--that I just like to find my pace and go with it. Of course I was a little offended at first, but then got to thinking that maybe I don't push myself as hard as I need to if I want to get faster and in better shape. So yesterday I made a concerted effort to keep up with Landon's pace and even try to push it a little by working on lengthening my stride and you know what? It worked. The wind was killer the first half and I was tired at the end, but we ran the whole thing at a good pace--our first couple of miles were under a 9 minute mile pace and overall our average was about 9:12 minute miles, which is the longest I've run and the fastest pace we've run it at.
When we were doing P90x last year the trainer on the series always said something along the lines of how most people, when working out, stop long before their breaking point, quit long before they need to, for fear of pain and discomfort. I was thinking about that in my head last night because I think I'm guilt of that on our runs--I don't want the pain, the discomfort that comes with pushing myself just a little harder. But last night I did and it sucked at times and hurt at times but we made it. And the feeling when it was done was well worth it.
We're signed up for the Blue Bell 10K in 2 weeks with my dad (and maybe our moms and his sister too!) out in Brenham. That's my motivation now because I want to be able to keep up with my husband and my father, both of whom could probably totally leave me in their dust. But I'm gonna keep trying... :) At least there will be Blue Bell ice cream waiting for us at the finish line!!
Yummy... Blue Bell.... that's one thing we don't have in Vegas. Oh how I miss the birthday cake flavor. Yummo! Great job on the running- I'm super impressed!
