20 miler part deaux

I just wanted to document 2 things tonight--our second 20 miler, in preparation for the Goofy Challenge, which is coming up in about 3 weeks (YIKES!:)) and my favorite run yet. And yes, they're the same run, surprisingly enough.

For our first 20 miler, I was stressed out and nervous and made sure to get a lot of sleep the night before and eat enough before the run.

For this run, we didn't get more than 5 hours of sleep any of the three previous nights, celebrated 2 Christmases with family on Saturday and then went to church and lunch at Chili's on Sunday. And then, about an hour later, we went to the gym to run our 20 miles. We were exhausted and still somewhat full from lunch and definitely had not been preparing ourselves for the run because life had just been on crazy mode all week.

But the last four miles of this run were what made it my favorite of any race we've done. We ran out of time at the gym to get the last few miles in, so we went to Smoothie King (because that is our long run tradition) and shared a smoothie and then ran the last four in the neighborhood. Landon took us through a section of the neighborhood that he had run the week before because it had really pretty Christmas lights. And we ran the last four miles together, talking and looking at the lights and it was wonderful. Romantic, Christmas-y, and such a fun memory together.

It was one of those moments that makes all of the runs that have been hard, SO, SO worth it. And that makes me love running and love Christmas and Christmas lights and cool weather and my husband. Definitely my husband most of all.
