Weekend Update

This weekend has been absolutely perfect...exactly what we needed. It's the first weekend since June 12th (Kenna's wedding weekend, so I don't even know if you can count that as being at home!) that we've been home for the weekend. And this weekend, we had exactly nothing on the calendar. It was glorious.

We cooked dinner and hung out on the couch, watching tv and talking all Friday night. Then, we woke up around 730am on Saturday morning for a 3 hour bike ride--Saturdays are my long ride days for my half-Ironman training program. And, I was actually looking forward to the ride this week because we were at home to do it, which makes it infinitely easier to do. Plus, Landon had put aerobars on my bike this last week, which I was anxious to try out, and I finally had a plan for what I was going to eat and drink on the bike to take in enough calories, which I was also wanting to try out. Since my whole ride is hopefully going to be only about 3.5 hours long, I was just anxious to see how it all would go. And, I was so excited because it actually went really well! The aero bars made a HUGE difference in how fast I was able to go and how tired my legs were and eating and drinking made a huge difference too! Plus, it also helped that Landon was there with me, talking to me and, at time, pushing me. But, when I got off the bike after 46 miles, I actually felt like I still had some energy still in the tank, which was pretty much a first for me! It made me think I might actually be able to do this half-Ironman, ha!

Then, after our bike ride my amazing father came over and helped us put new doorknobs on our house (I love them now!) and dig up the HUGE tree that had fallen and put up a makeshift fence to keep the dogs in until we get a new one put in. Our neighbors were out there too, since the tree had actually fallen in their yard, and they were hauling the pieces we cut up to the dump. It was a nice team effort--and it was to get to talk to them some more and get to know them a little. They seem like really good people--and were so nice to stay out there in the heat of the day and help up construct a little fence once the tree was gone.

The rest of the evening we spent at home, relaxing and watching a little tv before hitting Pei Wei for dinner. Seriously, it was perfect.

Then today we actually got to go to church, which was nice, and had lunch out at Cracker Barrel with some friends. It was good just to hang out and catch up since we've all been pretty scattered this summer! And today has been another relax at home afternoon--we took naps, I worked on a few blog posts, Landon is making me a new header for my blog!! and we watched a little football. Just what the doctor ordered; we've been looking forward to this weekend for about a month!

And now, I'm about to start getting things ready to meet with my principal tomorrow to discuss the upcoming school year. I've been thinking about school things and plans for the past few weeks, so I've slowly been easing myself into it--and I even went up to work one day last week to start setting up my classroom--but still, it's hard to believe that summer is over!!

It was definitely one to remember though--and one that we probably won't be able to top for a lot of years! Here's to hoping that once I get back to work, getting back into the swing of things won't be too much work!!
