Happy Earth Day!

When I was growing up, I was very into Earth Day. I remember at my elementary school we'd celebrate it big--there would be contests and posters all around the school and festivities all week long. I remember in fourth or fifth grade I won the "Design an Earth Day Bumper Sticker" contest. It was a big moment in my childhood. :)

I also remember that I had this huge Earth Day 1993 poster that hung on the wall above my desk for the longest time. Maybe my parents even have it somewhere still. I searched Google trying to find it, but alas, it didn't make the cut. The closest I could find is this. You get the idea. Just substitute 1993 for 2006. And I think it said something like "Earth Day is Everyday" or something like that.

This week, KSBJ has been celebrating Earth Day and I've been listening to them every morning in the car on my way to work. They've been all about ways to "go green". Somehow though, they always save the "go green" tips for right after I get out of the car. Frustrating.

So, I've been thinking about what else we can do to "go green". Right now we just do the basics.

We recycle.

I wash the clothes in cold water.

I only run the dishwasher when it's full.

I use my reusable shopping bags (when I remember them:)).

We started a compost, after seeing how good my brother's turned out.

I'm looking for more ideas! What do you do to "go green"?
