We've been reading all year and meeting during lunch at school in my room to practice naming the books. These girls have worked so hard and today, at the semi-finals, they came in 2nd place, which means we're going to finals on Friday! They TOTALLY held their own against the schools that win every academic competition in the district, the schools that are expected to win things like this, and even beat out all but one, which they did not think they could do going into the competition. it was so fun to see their confidence rising as the competition went on and they began to realize they knew the books. I am so excited for them--I love the look on their faces knowing that their hard work paid off. And their placing and going to finals was especially sweet this year because we ended up in a 3 way tie, which eventually ended up with us in 3rd place and not going to finals, last year. So this was a long-awaited victory for them!

Name That Book
At school I sponsor our Name That Book club and adore it--even though these girls make my life crazy at times! :) At the beginning of the year each school's club is given a list of 40 books to read and then at the competition they are read one line from 25 randomly chosen books out of the 40 and given 45 seconds to name that book that the line is from. It's tough--you have to really know the books.

waiting for the next line to be read
They were cheering because they got it right!
And cheering when they announced we got second place and are going to the finals on Friday!!
Our team all decked out in their medals and showing off their trophy!
And then, as is tradition, we had to celebrate with pizza and games at Cici's Pizza! :)
Congrats girls--remember the feeling of hard work paying off!
